Our regular music therapist attends our centre on Monday and Tuesdays to provide a music session that promotes memory, relaxation and musical interaction. Different props are used to encourage the guys to become involved such as the guitar, chimes and ribbons and parachute.
Drumming performance and rhythm therapy. This activity is one of the favourites, the drums are loud and addictive. Every one who participates in this class has tremendous fun in making their own rythm with their drum.
Let's get Loud and Just Dance! The Samba, The Rumba, The Twist, and The Waltz... The super savy dance instructor Kylie encourages and motivates to get up and dance... Or sit down and spin.. Just keep moving!
We strive to provide a 'Quality' service that ensures safety, participation, facilitates independence, assists with individual goal accomplishment and promotes effective communication for all. Our centre is located in Margate QLD and is fortunate to be host to some truly amazing resources that support young adults with disabilities. Our service is operational Monday to Friday with any planned closures documented in HRRA Inc. annual diaries.
Transport options are available to assist families and carers in utilising our service.
Horizons believes the importance of communication as a basic human right and we endeavour to support this right with our service users. Our communciation initiative is showcased as our "Sensory Unit" The Sensory Unit is a separate building to the main centre and it houses various equipment from musical to visual to encourage different communication methods.
As part of our services, we currently offer 12 weeks programs (with more yet to come) to ensure that we can deliver a service that is capable of meeting individual needs, strengths and preferences. We engage appropriately qualified external facilitators to deliver many of theses programs on site weekly.
We have a very talented qualified carpenter who loves coming to the centre on Friday's to help the guys use tools and make something they can use. Some of the things we have made include a pool cue stand, photo frames, a plant stand, bird feeder.
Everybody ROLL...... The local AMF Bowling Lanes are fantastic hosts and run a league each season for us to join.
Bowling can be played by anyone, and their are useful aids to assist the guys in getting a STRIKE!
Inside Outside Theatre - Its not what you can't do, but what you can do that matters! With the assistance and guidance of Angela, the guys are encouraged to be confident and enjoy themselves in the theatrics of drama.
Cooking with Stacey.... each week a delicious easy to prepare healthy dish is served!
Each of the guys have their own equipment and are supported in following a recipe and preparing their meal.
Sailability Shorncliffe is a "not for profit", volunteer-based organisation which, through the activity of sailing, enriches the lives of people with disabilities.
Sailability uses specially designed sailing boats called Access Dinghies which enable the guys to sail in safety and comfort. Volunteers are on board to guide them through their sail.
Riding for the Disabled Association Queensland (RDAQ) assists people with disabilities to interact with horses through Riding, carriage driving and therapeutic programs.
